Carrie Johnson, the Prime Minister’s wife, is to be fined over parties in Downing Street during lockdown, the Telegraph can reveal.

A spokesman for Mrs Johnson said she had been told she would receive a fixed penalty notice.

The statement came after Number 10 said Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are also to be fined over "partygate".

The spokesman said: "In the interests of transparency, Mrs Johnson can confirm she has been notified that she will receive a fixed penalty notice. She has not yet received any further details about the nature of the fixed penalty notice."

Mrs Johnson has been linked to two "partygate" events. One, on the night of Nov 13, 2020, has been described as a "victory party" held by her friends after Dominic Cummings, the Prime Minister's top aide, quit the Government.

The second, on June 19, 2020, was a 56th "birthday party" for Mr Johnson held in the Cabinet Room in Downing Street, despite social gatherings indoors being banned.

Earlier, a Number 10 spokesman said: "The Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer have today received notification that the Metropolitan Police intends to issue them with fixed penalty notices. We have no further details, but we will update you again when we do."
