Poland has left the new German ambassador to Warsaw in limbo as he is pilloried in the country’s nationalist press for his father’s past as an adjutant to Hitler.

Relations between the neighbouring countries suffered under a barrage of anti-German rhetoric during the recent Polish presidential election campaign, as well as repeated demands for Second World War reparations.
