TikTok, the Chinese social media giant, has poached hundreds of Facebook’s Irish employees and contract workers this year as it greatly expands its European headquarters in Dublin, which now employs almost 1,000 staff.

Sources in the tech sector say TikTok’s unique recruitment strategy has led to it hiring more than 200 employees, who had been working either directly or through contractors for Facebook, in recent months.

Most of the new TikTok Dublin staff worked as content moderators and analysts for Facebook through companies such as Covalen, an Irish firm better known for its CPL brand. Their jobs involve weeding out inappropriate content on the social media site, and they are in high demand at TikTok because the video sharing site established Dublin as a “trust
