A police force that said budget cuts meant it could no longer send officers to all reports of shoplifting has hired Cristiano Ronaldo’s “sleep guru” to teach them how to relax.

Nottinghamshire police has brought in Nick Littlehales to show officers how to get a good night’s sleep after his success with famous footballers, including Ronaldo, the star forward for Portugal and Juventus.

The force was criticised by shopkeepers in 2017 when Paddy Tipping, the police and crime commissioner, said that budget cuts meant officers would “probably not” attend reports of thefts from stores.

It also faced criticism in the same year for suggesting that wolf-whistling should be considered a hate crime, along with verbal abuse and taking photographs of people without their consent.
