A mafia-themed pizzeria in Frankfurt has caused a diplomatic complaint from Italy after German judges dismissed a lawsuit alleging that it defamed two Sicilian prosecutors murdered by the Cosa Nostra.

Falcone & Borsellino is named after Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, two anti-mafia judges killed in separate car bombings in 1992.

The pizzeria menu features a black-and-white picture of the pair in a bullet-riddled photo montage beside an image of Marlon Brando as Don Corleone in The Godfather. It includes a special “Godfather and me” offer for a pizza and a bottle of white wine at €22. The branding has caused offence in Sicily, where the two men are seen as heroes in the war against organised crime.
