Sex assault claims by a Labour MP that ended the Westminster career of Boris Johnson’s former campaign chairman were unfounded, an inquiry has ruled.
Paul Sweeney went public before last year’s general election with claims that he had been repeatedly molested by Ross Thomson the previous year at a bar in parliament. In interviews with two newspapers the former Glasgow North East MP accused Mr Thomson of drunkenly trying to fondle his genitals and forcing a hand down his trousers in a 15-minute ordeal. The claims ultimately forced Mr Thomson to resign as Conservative MP for Aberdeen South.
The parliamentary standards commissioner has now concluded that Mr Thomson’s behaviour was not sexual and cleared him of misconduct. Mr Sweeney declined to comment on the decision
