The Queen has decided to forgo her daily drink of alcohol, The Times understands.

The monarch, who is 95 and was seen using a walking stick during recent engagements in Wales “for comfort”, faces a busy autumn schedule before taking part in the platinum jubilee celebrations next June.

A family friend told Vanity Fair that she had chosen to give up her evening tipple.

The friend said: “It’s not really a big deal for her. She is not a big drinker.”

The Queen is rarely seen drinking in public but Buckingham Palace sources confirmed that, like her son the Prince of Wales, her alcoholic beverage of choice is often a dry martini.

She is also believed to enjoy a glass of sweet wine with dinner,
