The golden imprints of JK Rowling’s hands have been drowned in red paint in what appears to be the latest escalation of a row about her alleged transphobia.
The author of the Harry Potter novels has become embroiled in a succession of bitter online rows with activists after arguing that same-sex attraction was “erased” if “sex isn’t real”.
Twelve years ago her golden handprints were engraved outside Edinburgh City Chambers.
They were vandalised over the weekend and a blue, pink and white transgender rights flag placed alongside them.
The writer, 54, had tweeted comments that likened hormones taken by many trans people to “a new kind of conversion therapy”.
She recently wrote: “Many health professionals are concerned that young people struggling with their
