Slashing the BBC will embolden “democratic disruption” by Russian and Chinese state-controlled propaganda outlets around the world, the corporation’s chairman claimed last night.

Sir David Clementi also warned that partisan US-style news channels could arrive in the UK, further dividing society, if impartial public service news organisations such as the BBC were not supported.
