Scottish publicans and hoteliers have demanded to see the scientific evidence behind the decision to keep them locked down for two weeks longer than those in England.

England got back to business yesterday with shops, gyms and hair salons taking advantage of the latest easing of lockdown restrictions.

A few early morning drinkers braved the cold as pubs began serving customers outside. Boris Johnson urged people to “behave responsibly”.

Hairdressers reopened in Scotland on April 5 but non-essential shops, gyms and beer gardens remain closed until April 26.
