The policing minister has been accused of triggering a potential Covid-19 outbreak in the Home Office after failing to follow coronavirus guidelines. Kit Malthouse, a close ally of the prime minister, tested positive for the virus after taking a rapid lateral flow test on his way into work last week.

The minister, who was asymptomatic, was alerted to his diagnosis via a text message sent about 30 minutes after the test while he was at his desk in the Home Office.

Government guidance says workers should remain socially distanced at work until they receive the all-clear.
