Professors at Cambridge University have trained Chinese officials, including senior Communist Party figures, to become better leaders, an investigation by The Times has found.

The Cambridge China Development Trust, which rents offices at Jesus College, taught hundreds of the authoritarian regime’s most powerful corporate bosses as well as party officials between 2005 and 2019.

The trust, which is run by senior academics, including a Labour life peer and former vice chancellor, states that its courses are “intended solely for the public benefit”.

The annual China Executive Leadership Programme lasts two weeks and includes seminars on leadership and strategy and day trips to the Foreign Office in London. The findings come amid concern about Chinese influence on British campuses.
