The playboy grandson of Kazakhstan’s former leader was summoned to a London court yesterday for breaking the terms of his suspended jail sentence. The only problem, it soon emerged, was that he was dead.

Aisultan Nazarbayev, 29, was sentenced last year after breaking into an elderly woman’s home, taking off his clothes and biting the arm of a police officer called to the scene. The court was told at the time that the Sandhurst graduate had been shouting “terrorist comments” from the rooftops before he assaulted Sergeant Ross Sambrook at the flat in Covent Garden.
