Anyone interested in becoming part of “postal history” is being urged to consider buying the world’s oldest working post office (Lucinda Cameron writes).

Sanquhar post office in Dumfries and Galloway opened in 1712, eight years before the second oldest in Stockholm. It comes with a three-bedroom cottage, is on the market for £275,000 and was put up for sale last autumn. Manzoor Alam and his wife, Nazra, have run the office since 2015 and are retiring in May.
