Slovaks have been implored to watch public information videos about car-parking and electronic business registration so that the state can avoid having to hand back tens of thousands of euros in EU subsidies.

If the 12 YouTube clips, which have such enticing titles as “Personal data management and central API management platform”, fail to receive 100,000 views apiece, Bratislava fears that it will be obliged to repay Brussels much of the €78,600 it cost to produce them.

Ministers have appealed to citizens to watch the films out of patriotic duty but so far their entreaties seem to have largely fallen on deaf ears.
