One of the country’s top civil servants has been working from her native Canada since lockdown, a transparency release has revealed.

Elizabeth Denham, the information commissioner, has been working from her home across the Atlantic and is likely to have to isolate for 14 days when she returns to Britain next month.

Ms Denham travelled to British Columbia on June 13 after her mother, who is in her eighties, suffered serious injuries in a road accident, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Her location was revealed after a member of the public put in a freedom of information request which disclosed that she was in Canada and working from the Canadian Pacific Time Zone, eight hours behind the UK.
