One of the UK’s smallest and most remote schools — which has just four pupils — has secured a new head teacher.

Papa Westray Community School in Orkney has been without a head since December. Tim Ross, who previously taught in Stanley, capital of the Falkland Islands, has now joined the school.

Papa Westray is one of the northernmost islands in the archipelago and is home to about 80 residents as well as a shop and post office.

Mr Ross said: “I am looking forward to getting to know the children, staff and parents in Papa Westray and to becoming a part of the wider community.”
