A hermit living in a Scottish forest has been rescued after his distress signal was picked up in the United States.

Ken Smith, who is in his seventies, made headlines around the world when he was rescued in similar circumstances in February last year after he was taken ill. This time he was injured after a log pile fell on him at his cabin, two hours’ walk from the nearest road.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team were flown by the coastguard search and rescue helicopter, which is based in Inverness, to Glen Nevis on Saturday.
