Rise in satisfaction comes too late for ScotRail operator

Passengers have said that Scotrail’s performance has improved, a survey conducted in the autumn shows. The data, released yesterday, comes weeks after the government decided to end Abellio’s running of the franchise early.

Nine out of ten respondents to the latest National Rail Passenger Survey said they felt their journey on the Scottish network was satisfactory or good. The headline satisfaction level of 89 per cent in the 2019 autumn survey was an increase from the 79 per cent recorded the previous autumn.

Last month Holyrood ministers announced that they would end Abellio’s tenure in 2022, three years earlier than planned. The Dutch company had taken over in 2015 but received criticism over delays, overcrowding and performance levels.
