Dublin city council is investing €600,000 in six sculptures for parks and public spaces across Dublin over the next 18 months.

The sculptures will be placed across the city and will involve communities in the creation of the work.

“Local people will feel part of the process of putting a sculpture into their park, in order to give them a sense of connection to it,” said Ray Yeates, the council’s arts officer, who is on the steering group for Sculpture Dublin.

The initiative will include the placement of a temporary sculpture on the O’Connell plinth, at the entrance to Dublin City Hall.

The plinth has been vacant since 1867, when a statue of Daniel O’Connell was removed and placed inside the hall.
