I would never take the knee, says Priti Patel in attack on “dreadful” BLM protests

Priti Patel has described the Black Lives Matter protests of last year as “dreadful” and said that she would not take the knee.

The home secretary accused protesters of attempting to “rewrite history” by toppling a statue of the slave trader Edward Colston in Bristol.

Appearing on LBC radio she was asked whether she would ever take a knee. She replied: “No I would not, I would not have at the time either. There are other ways in which people can express their opinions.”

After appearing to suggest that she did not believe in the principle of protest at all, she clarified that she did not agree with the “dreadful” protests that took place last summer following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
