Russia warns TikTok to remove flood of clips backing Alexei Navalny

Russia has demanded that the video-sharing app TikTok clamps down on posts urging schoolchildren and students to attend nationwide protests in support of Alexei Navalny, the detained Kremlin critic.

Demonstrations are due to take place tomorrow in almost 70 towns and cities from Moscow and St Petersburg to Vladivostok in the country’s far east. They look set to be the biggest opposition demonstrations since at least 2018.

A senior police official said attempts were being made to destabilise Russia and warned that the authorities would crack down on demonstrators.

Mr Navalny, 44, was arrested on Sunday after flying back from Germany, where he had been convalescing after a near-fatal poisoning attack he said was ordered by President Putin. He is facing three and a half
