From the heaving mass of humanity in Venice to the ceaseless press of crowds around the Mona Lisa in Paris, Europe’s premiere tourist spots have a problem — too many tourists.

Now, an eminent Swiss economist says he has the answer: build a St Mark’s Square called “Mark 2”, create a lookalike Louvre and do the same for more than 100 sites suffering from “over-tourism” — then let the hordes descend.
