Lord Sedwill, the former cabinet secretary who quit this summer after falling foul of Dominic Cummings, has taken a job at Rothschild & Co.

He was until September the UK’s most senior civil servant and is to become a senior adviser working across the bank’s advisory, wealth management and merchant banking business.

He has been warned not to give advice on any policy that he worked on either as cabinet secretary or national security adviser for two years by an independent watchdog charged with stopping former senior officials and ministers improperly exploiting their government experience.
