Video has emerged from a Russian jail showing the torture of two inmates, one of whom subsequently died.
In one of the videos, about half a dozen guards can be seen hitting Vazha Bochorishvili, 35, a Georgian citizen, with truncheons as he lies naked on a wooden table at Penal Colony No 1 in the Yaroslavl region, 170 miles from Moscow. Bochorishvili, who was halfway through a three-and-a-half-year sentence for theft, screams for the guards to stop.
Instead, an off-screen voice urges: “Harder! Harder!” After falling unconscious Bochorishvili was placed in solitary confinement but had suffered fatal injuries to his liver and died in hospital.
