Russian women have been urged to celebrate International Women’s Day by snitching on ex-boyfriends who are dodging army service.
“Let me give you a little gift. Leave links to the [social media] accounts of your ex-boyfriends in the comments section, and we will meet them at recruiting points,” Colonel Yuri Khromov, head of the draft board in the Leningrad region, posted on Instagram yesterday. “And remember: a real man must have a military service card.”
Some women appeared enthusiastic about the unusual offer. “If you take him, this would be the best present,” wrote one woman, who included a link to a man’s social media account. She added: “Pack him off to a military base in Antarctica.” Another wrote: “Why only ex-boyfriends?”
