Arlene Foster, Northern Ireland’s first minister, is to challenge the legality of Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal, arguing that it is incompatible with the 1998 Good Friday agreement and the 1800 Act of Union.

Foster, along with senior Democratic Unionist Party MPs, will seek to overturn the protocol that imposes checks on goods crossing the Irish Sea.

Unionists are furious about the new regulatory and customs processes required to bring goods into Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK under the EU withdrawal agreement.
